Shopify Store Audit

This guide shows you how to use the Store App Audit tool, step by step. No technical knowledge is needed.

About the screenshots in this guide

Every illustration below comes from a real audit run inside the tool. We entered the store kylie-jenner-us.myshopify.com and let the tool scan it. That store runs 2 apps for $40/month and scored 88/100, so the numbers you see are its live results.

1. What this tool does

The Store App Audit scans the apps installed in your Shopify store and gives you:

  • An App Health Score out of 100.

  • Your total monthly app cost and possible savings.

  • A list of unused, high-risk, and overlapping apps.

  • Clear actions: remove, replace, or combine apps.

It helps you answer four simple questions: Which apps waste money? Which slow my store? Which are risky? Which do the same job?

2. Before you start

You need:

  • A Shopify store you own or manage.

  • Admin access to approve the connection.

Please note that the tool only reads your data. It never changes, removes, or installs anything in your store. You stay in control of every action.

3. Step-by-step

Step 1: Start your audit

1. Open the Store App Audit page.

2. Click Audit My Store Now.

3. Enter your store URL.

4. Click Run Audit.

If the URL is not valid, you will see an error. Simply check it and enter it again.

Step 2: Connect your store

  1. You will be sent to Shopify's secure sign-in.

  2. Review the permissions, then click Approve.

  3. We ask only for read-only access:

  • See your installed apps.

  • Check your themes and scripts (to measure speed impact).

  • Read order activity (for usage analytics).

We only read your data. If you decline, the audit cannot run.

Step 3: Wait for the scan

The tool collects your apps, themes, scripts, and recent activity, then analyzes them. This takes only a short moment.

Step 4: Confirm your app costs

  1. You will see a table: App Name, Plan, Estimated Cost, and Usage.

  2. We fill in the costs automatically from our database.

  3. Check each row. If your real plan is different (Free / Basic / Pro / Enterprise), adjust it.

This step makes your cost and savings numbers accurate.

The tool can only detect part of the apps installed in your store. It surfaces the ones it can see from public signals and our database, so some of your apps may not appear automatically.

For an accurate audit, use "Add an app we missed..." in this step to enter any app you actually use that is not listed. The more complete your app list, the more accurate your cost, savings, risk, and redundancy analysis will be.

Step 5: Read your dashboard

The dashboard shows your store's app health at a glance:

  • App Health Score (0–100): overall health from cost, usage, risk, and performance

  • Total Monthly App Cost

  • Potential Monthly Savings

  • Number of Unused Apps

  • Number of High-Risk Apps

  • Number of Redundant Apps

Your apps are also grouped by risk level: Low, Medium, or High.

How to read this from the Demo

The demo store scores 85 / 100 (Healthy): every app is used (0 unused), none is risky (0 high-risk), and nothing overlaps (0 redundant). Because the stack is already lean, potential savings are $0. There is nothing wasteful to cut.

Step 6: Explore the charts

  • Treemap: box size shows cost, color shows how much you use the app (green = high use, red =

unused). Large red boxes are your best savings targets.

  • Bar chart: compare the cost of apps in the same category.

  • Pie chart: see where your spending goes, by category.

  • Scatter plot: find apps that are both high cost and high risk.

Step 7: Review each app

The app list lets you sort and filter every installed app. Each row shows:

  • Category

  • Monthly cost

  • Usage Level (High / Medium / Low / Unused)

  • Usage Score

  • Performance Impact (High / Medium / Low)

  • Risk Score

  • Redundancy (does another app do the same job?)

  • A suggested action

Step 8: Take action

For each app, you get a clear suggestion:

  • Remove: for unused or low-value apps. The tool links you to your Shopify Admin to uninstall.

  • Replace: for costly or low-rated apps. The tool suggests a better or cheaper alternative from Letsmetrix.

  • Consolidate: when two apps overlap, keep the stronger one and drop the others.

Step 9: Schedule the next audit

  1. Click Schedule next audit.

  2. Choose how often: Weekly, Monthly, or Custom.

  3. Confirm.

You will be reminded to re-check your app stack on time.

4. Understanding the scores

App Health Score (0–100): your overall app stack health. Higher is better. It combines usage, risk, performance, and cost efficiency.

Usage Level: how often an app is opened:

Level

Meaning

High

Used in the last 7 days

Medium

Used 8–30 days ago

Low

Used 31–90 days ago

Unused

Not opened in over 90 days

New

Installed in the last 14 days (we wait before judging)

Risk Score (0–100): higher means more risk. It looks at the app's rating, how recently it was updated, the developer's support quality, and how sensitive its permissions are. Any app above 70 is flagged as high-risk.

Performance Impact (High / Medium / Low): how much an app may slow your store. Slow pages can lower your sales.

Redundancy: when two apps do the same core job. Keeping both usually wastes money.

5. The permissions we request

We ask only for read-only access:

  • Installed apps - to list and analyze them.

  • Themes and scripts - to estimate speed impact.

  • Order activity - for usage analytics.

We never write, edit, or uninstall anything. Every change stays yours to confirm in Shopify.
