New Subscriptions

The “New Subscriptions” dashboard provides a comprehensive view of your newly converted paid user base, helping you track the growth and health of your application's revenue.

How we get these data

New Subscriptions data is gathered from Shopify API App Events and Transactions to ensure real-time and precise tracking of merchant payment activities.

Understand the dashboard

New Subscription is the total number of users (shops) newly using a paid plan (Active Paid Plan), and the time from the first charge to the reporting moment does not exceed 30 days.

  • Paid types include:

    • Subscription: Recurring fees.

    • One-time: Application Charge.

    • Usage-based: Fees based on usage levels.

  • Timeframe: After the 31st day from the first payment, the user will no longer be a New Subscription.

1. New Subscriptions

The chart visualizes the total number of new subscriptions over your selected time period (Days, Weeks, Months), with a percentage comparison against the previous 31-day period. You can view the chart in either Combined/Separate mode.

The breakout table shows the daily changes that contribute to this trend, including One-time, Subscriptions, and Usage charges.

The panels below offer a quick historical comparison of your total new subscription count against previous months and years.

2. Plans

This chart provides an overview of which specific Plans new merchants are choosing, displaying each plan’s Interval, Active Customer count, percentage share, and the MRR contribution for each plan.

3. New Subscriptions (Customer)

This table displays a granular list of individual shops that have recently converted, including the Customer (shop) name, subscription Date, the specific Subscription Plan selected, and the exact MRR Gained from each conversion.

How New Subscriptions data can benefit you

  • Monetization Efficiency: It measures your ability to successfully persuade users to upgrade to a paid plan after the initial installation or trial period.

  • Refund Risk: The new paying group (<= 30 days) is usually the group most likely to request a refund or cancel the plan if the product does not immediately meet expectations.

  • Sales Campaign Evaluation: It allows you to check the effectiveness of discounts or marketing strategies aimed at converting users from free to paid.
